How to download Facebook videos, Reels and Stories
SnapDownloader is a free Facebook video downloader that runs entirely in your browser — no login, no app and no extension to install. Paste the link to any public video, Reel, Watch clip or Story and it fetches the file the way Facebook stored it: an HD MP4 in the best quality the source provides, usually up to 1080p, with the sound included. There's nothing to configure and no account to create — you paste one link and get one clean download.
Copy a link from Facebook's share menu, paste it into the box above and press Download. On a computer and on Android the file saves to your Downloads folder; on iPhone it saves through the share sheet into the Files app, from where you can move the video into Photos. Facebook streams a video's picture and its sound as two separate files, so a raw download can play silent — this tool merges them into one complete MP4 for you automatically. Only public content works: private, group-only, expired or login-gated videos can't be fetched by any tool, whatever it promises.
How to download a Facebook video, step by step
In the Facebook app, open the video or Reel, tap the Share arrow beneath it and choose Copy link. In a web browser you can click the post's timestamp or its three-dot menu and pick Copy link, or copy the URL straight from the address bar. Paste whichever link you have into the box at the top of this page and press Download.
Within a second or two you get the video as an HD MP4 in the best quality Facebook served for that clip — usually up to 1080p, with its original sound. On a computer and on Android the file saves to your Downloads folder, ready for your gallery or media player to pick up.
iPhone works a little differently: Safari saves the file through the share sheet into the Files app rather than straight to your camera roll. To move a clip into Photos, open Files, tap the MP4 and choose Save Video. No account or software is needed at any point.
What you can download from Facebook
Regular video posts and Watch clips come down as clean MP4s with their original audio, in the best quality Facebook served — usually up to 1080p. You get the source file, not a screen recording.
Reels download in HD the same way. That matters because Facebook's app has no dependable save button for Reels, so pasting the link here is often the only way to keep one for offline viewing.
Stories work while they are live: paste a public Story link to save it before it disappears at the 24-hour mark. Live videos can only be saved once the broadcast has finished and become a replay. Facebook has said it may remove older Live broadcasts — its stated window is around 30 days after they air — so it's worth grabbing an archived stream promptly rather than assuming it will stay up.
Which Facebook links work, and which don't
The tool accepts Facebook's standard link shapes: a Watch video (facebook.com/watch/?v=…), a Reel (facebook.com/reel/…), a share link (facebook.com/share/v/…), an fb.watch short link, and mobile m.facebook.com URLs. Both the Share menu's Copy link and the browser address bar give you a URL in the right shape.
What won't resolve is anything behind a login. Private profiles, closed-group videos and friends-only posts aren't served to the open web, so no link-paste tool can reach them. A bare profile or Page address isn't a video link either — you need the URL of the specific post. If a link copied from another app fails, open the post in a normal browser and copy the clean facebook.com link instead.
HD quality, sound and watermarks
Every download is the file Facebook itself stored, so quality matches the source: an HD MP4, usually up to 1080p when the uploader posted in HD. Facebook keeps separate SD and HD renditions of the same video and the tool always pulls the highest one available — there's no quality menu, format picker, WebM or MP3 option to work through.
If a Facebook download has ever played silent for you elsewhere, that's because Facebook delivers a video's picture and its sound as two separate streams. This downloader merges them back into one MP4 automatically, so the file you save plays complete with audio and you don't have to do a thing.
Facebook doesn't burn a watermark onto uploads the way TikTok does, so the MP4 comes out clean — no logo or username stamped across the frame. You're saving the original source file, with nothing added and nothing re-compressed on top of it.
Why a Facebook download fails
By far the most common reason is that the video isn't public. Private profiles, closed-group videos and friends-only posts can't be fetched by SnapDownloader or any legitimate tool, because the file isn't served to the open web. Any site that claims to download private or group videos is either overpromising or fishing for your Facebook password, which you should never enter.
Timing accounts for most of the rest. A Story link only works while the Story is live, so it returns nothing after the 24-hour window closes; a Live video can't be captured while the stream is still running — wait until it ends — and an older broadcast may already have been taken down, since Facebook has said it can remove Live videos around 30 days after they air.
If a download comes back at 720p or in SD rather than 1080p, it's because Facebook only stored that video at that quality — the tool always grabs the highest rendition, but it can't add detail the uploader never posted. Region-locked, age-gated, deleted or taken-down videos fail too, because the link resolves to nothing. When a download won't start, copy a fresh link straight from Facebook and check the post still opens in a logged-out browser.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is SnapDownloader for Facebook?+−
SnapDownloader is a free, browser-based Facebook video downloader for public content. Paste the link to a video, Reel, Watch clip or Story and it saves the original file to your device as an HD MP4, in the best quality Facebook served — usually up to 1080p. There's no account, no app and no extension to install.
What types of Facebook content can I download?+−
You can save regular video posts, Watch clips, Reels and public Stories, plus Live videos once the broadcast has ended. Everything comes down as an HD MP4 with its original sound. Live streams can't be captured while they're still in progress — wait until they finish and become a replay.
How do I download a Facebook video?+−
Open the video or Reel and use Facebook's Share menu to Copy link, or copy the URL from your browser's address bar. Paste it into the box at the top of this page and press Download. There's no quality to pick — the tool automatically fetches the best version Facebook has and saves it in one step.
What quality will my Facebook download be?+−
You get the same quality Facebook stored, so video comes down as an HD MP4, usually up to 1080p when the clip was uploaded in HD. Facebook keeps separate SD and HD copies of each video and the tool always pulls the highest one available. There's no 4K, WebM or quality selector — it simply grabs the best rendition that exists for that post.
Can I download just the audio or an MP3 from a Facebook video?+−
No — this page saves the complete video as an MP4 with its original sound included; there's no separate audio-only or MP3 export here. Download the MP4 and the audio comes with it, exactly as it was posted.
Can I download private or group Facebook videos?+−
No. SnapDownloader only works with publicly shared videos, so private profiles, closed-group videos and friends-only posts can't be fetched by any download tool. We'll never ask you to log in or hand over your Facebook password to reach them — anything that does is a scam.
Can I download a Facebook Live video?+−
Yes, but only after the broadcast has finished and become a replay — a stream still in progress can't be captured. Facebook has said it may remove older Live videos, with a stated window of around 30 days after they air, so save an archived stream promptly rather than assuming it will stay online.
Is SnapDownloader safe to use?+−
Yes. It runs in your browser with nothing to download or install, and it never asks for your Facebook login, a password or any personal details. Be wary of any 'private Facebook downloader' that wants you to sign in with your credentials — that's the main way these tools compromise accounts.
Which devices does it work on?+−
Any device with a web browser — iPhone, Android, Windows, Mac, Linux and tablets — with no app to install. On desktop and Android the file lands in your Downloads folder; on iPhone it saves through the share sheet into the Files app, from where you can move a video into Photos.
Are there any download limits?+−
No. You can download as many public Facebook videos, Reels and Stories as you like, free, with no daily cap and no account required.
Is it legal to download Facebook videos?+−
Downloading public content for your own personal, offline use is generally fine. Reposting, redistributing or commercially using someone else's video without permission can infringe the creator's copyright, so credit the creator and get their consent before you reshare.
