How to download Twitter (X) videos and GIFs as MP4
SnapDownloader is a free Twitter video downloader that works right in your browser — no login, no app and no extension to install. Paste the link to any public tweet on Twitter (X) and it fetches the video the way X stored it: a single HD MP4 in the best quality the post offers — usually 720p, and 1080p or sharper when it was uploaded in Full HD — with the sound included. There's nothing to configure — no quality menu, no format list and no separate audio button — you paste one link and get one clean file you can keep.
Copy a tweet link from X's share menu, paste it into the box above and press Download. On a computer and on Android the MP4 saves to your Downloads folder; on iPhone it saves through the share sheet into the Files app, from where you can move it into Photos. You don't need X Premium — Premium's own save only keeps a video inside the app, while this hands you a real file. Only public tweets work: protected accounts, private posts and anything gated behind a login can't be fetched by any tool, whatever it promises.
How to download a Twitter (X) video, step by step
In the X app, open the tweet with the video, tap the share icon beneath it (the arrow) and choose Copy link. In a web browser you can copy the URL straight from the address bar instead — either way you want a link that contains /status/ followed by a number. Paste it into the box at the top of this page and press Download.
The video then comes back as an HD MP4 in the best quality X served for that post — there's no resolution to choose and no MP3 button, the tool simply grabs the highest version available. On a computer and on Android the file saves to your Downloads folder, ready for your gallery or media player to pick up.
iPhone works a little differently: Safari saves the MP4 through the share sheet into the Files app rather than straight to your camera roll. To move it into Photos, open Files, tap the video and choose Save Video. No account, no X login and no software is needed at any point.
Videos and GIFs: what you can save from Twitter (X)
Native videos — the clips uploaded straight into a tweet with X's own player — come down as clean MP4s with their original audio, in the best quality X served — usually 720p, and 1080p or sharper for videos uploaded in Full HD. Threads and posts that hold more than one video work too: you get the video from the tweet whose link you paste.
GIFs are the part people get wrong, and it's worth explaining. X doesn't actually store GIFs as .gif files — every 'GIF' you see is a short, silent MP4 that loops automatically. So when you download one here you get exactly what X holds: a smooth looping MP4 with no sound, which is the honest native form of that animation rather than a re-encode.
Either way, the file you get is the source X served, with nothing added. This page saves the video itself; it doesn't split out a standalone audio track, so the sound stays inside the MP4 exactly as it was posted.
Which Twitter (X) links work — and which don't
The tool accepts a normal tweet permalink from either domain: x.com/user/status/… or the older twitter.com/user/status/…, as well as mobile.twitter.com links. The one thing every working link has in common is the /status/ part followed by the tweet's ID number — that is the address of the specific post that holds the video.
What doesn't work is a link to a profile, a bare @handle, a search results page or a hashtag: those aren't a single post, so there's no one video to fetch. Short t.co links and URLs with extra tracking text tacked on usually still resolve, but if a paste fails, open the tweet in a browser and copy the clean /status/ URL from the address bar.
HD MP4 quality and the 'Twitter to MP4' question
Every download is a file X itself stores, so quality matches what X has. X keeps each video at a few sizes and the tool always fetches the largest one, with its sound: 720p for most posts, 1080p or sharper for videos uploaded in Full HD. There's no quality picker and no WebM — and a clip uploaded at a lower resolution downloads at that lower resolution.
If you searched for a 'Twitter to MP4 converter', this is it — there's nothing extra to convert. X already stores its videos and GIFs as MP4, so pasting a tweet link and pressing Download gives you a ready-to-play MP4 with no separate conversion step.
Why a Twitter (X) download fails
By far the most common reason is the wrong kind of link. If the URL doesn't contain /status/ — for example you copied a profile or a search page — there's no single post to read, so nothing downloads. Re-copy the link with Share › Copy link from the tweet itself, or grab the /status/ URL from your browser's address bar.
The next reason is that the content isn't public. Protected accounts, private posts and tweets X only shows once you're logged in — including media hidden behind a 'sensitive content' warning that needs a signed-in, age-verified account — can't be fetched by SnapDownloader or any legitimate tool, because the file isn't served to the open web. A failure there is X's gating, not a bug in the tool, and no site can honestly promise to reach it.
It also fails when there's no native video to grab: some tweets only link out to a clip hosted on another site, or show a link-preview card rather than a video uploaded straight to X. Deleted tweets and suspended accounts return nothing as well. When a public tweet still won't download, copy a fresh link and confirm the post opens in a normal browser without logging in.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is SnapDownloader for Twitter (X)?+−
SnapDownloader is a free, browser-based Twitter video downloader for public content on Twitter (X). Paste the link to any public tweet and it saves the video as a single HD MP4 — the best quality X served — with the sound included. There's no account, no app and no browser extension to install.
What types of Twitter (X) content can I download?+−
You can save native videos from public tweets and animated GIFs, which X stores as short silent MP4 loops. Both come down as MP4 files with nothing to configure. Protected tweets, private accounts and content behind a login can't be reached by any tool.
How do I download a Twitter video?+−
Open the tweet in X, tap the share icon and choose Copy link — or copy the URL from your browser's address bar. Make sure the link contains /status/, paste it into the box at the top of this page and press Download. There's no quality to pick; the tool automatically fetches the best MP4 X has and saves it in one step.
What quality will my Twitter download be?+−
X keeps each video as a few ready-to-play MP4s at different sizes, and the tool always takes the largest, with its sound. For most posts that's 720p; videos uploaded in Full HD come down at 1080p or sharper, and a clip uploaded at a lower resolution downloads at that resolution. There's no quality selector and no WebM option.
How do I download a GIF from Twitter (X)?+−
Paste the tweet link the same way you would for a video. X doesn't keep GIFs as .gif files — every GIF on the platform is really a short, silent MP4 that loops — so what you download is that native looping MP4. It plays and loops just like the GIF you saw, with no sound, because the original has none.
Can I download just the audio or an MP3 from a tweet?+−
This page saves the complete video as an MP4 with its original sound included; there's no separate audio-only or MP3 export on this page. Download the MP4 and the audio comes with it, exactly as it was posted.
Do I need X Premium or an app to download videos?+−
No. You don't need X Premium, and you don't need to install anything — no app and no browser extension. X Premium's own save only keeps a video inside the app, while SnapDownloader runs in any browser and hands you a real MP4 file you can keep and share.
Can I download protected or private tweets?+−
No. SnapDownloader only works with public tweets. Protected accounts, private posts and anything gated behind a login — including sensitive media X shows only to signed-in, age-verified accounts — aren't accessible to any download tool, and we'll never ask you to log in or hand over a password to reach them.
Is SnapDownloader safe to use?+−
Yes. It works in your browser, needs no download or installation, and never asks for your X login, a password or any personal details. Be wary of any tool that wants you to sign in with your X credentials to reach 'private' content — that's the main way these sites compromise accounts.
Which devices does it work on?+−
Any device with a browser — iPhone, Android, Windows, Mac, Linux and tablets — with nothing to install. On desktop and Android the MP4 lands in your Downloads folder; on iPhone it saves through the share sheet into the Files app, from where you can move a video into Photos.
Are there any download limits?+−
No. It's free with no account to create and nothing to install, so you can download the public Twitter (X) videos and GIFs you need. We don't put a sign-up gate or a paywall between you and the file.
SnapDownloader — free online video downloader
ABOUTSnapDownloader is a free online video downloader that works entirely in your browser. Unlike browser extensions that read your browsing data or downloader sites buried in pop-ups, SnapDownloader processes your link in memory and forgets it. Downloads come out at the quality the platform provides, as an MP4 with sound.
It works on every device with a browser: iPhone, Android, Windows, Mac, Linux, and tablets. Android users can also install the SnapDownloader app: share a post to it from any app, tap Save, and the video goes straight to the gallery.
SnapDownloader only fetches publicly available videos and respects each platform's privacy settings — private accounts and protected content stay private. For guides on saving from each platform, read the journal or jump straight to a platform downloader.
