How to download Instagram videos, Reels, Stories and photos
SnapDownloader is a free Instagram downloader that runs entirely in your browser — no login, no app and no extension to install. Paste the link to any public Reel, video post, Story or photo and it fetches the file the way Instagram stored it: video as an HD MP4 and images at full resolution as JPG. There is nothing to configure and no account to create; you paste one link and get one clean download.
Copy a link from Instagram's share menu, paste it into the box above and press Download. On a computer and on Android the file saves to your Downloads folder; on iPhone it saves through the share sheet into the Files app, from where you can move a video into Photos. Story and highlight downloads are anonymous — the owner is never notified, no view is added, and you don't have to follow the account or log in. Only public content works: private, expired or login-gated posts can't be fetched by any tool, whatever it promises.
How to download an Instagram video, step by step
In the Instagram app, open the Reel or post, tap the paper-plane share icon beneath it and choose Copy link. In a web browser you can copy the URL straight from the address bar instead. Paste whichever link you have into the box at the top of this page and press Download.
Within a second or two you get the video as an HD MP4 or the image as a full-resolution JPG. On a computer and on Android the file saves to your Downloads folder, ready for your Gallery app to pick up.
iPhone works a little differently: Safari saves the file through the share sheet into the Files app, not directly to your camera roll. To move a Reel into Photos, open Files, tap the MP4 and choose Save Video. No account or software is needed at any point.
What you can download from Instagram
Reels and regular video posts come down as clean MP4s with their original audio, in the best quality Instagram served — usually up to 1080p. You get the source file, not a re-recording.
Stories and highlights work while they are live: paste a public Story link to save it before it disappears at the 24-hour mark, and highlights (which are just saved Stories) behave the same way. Single photos save as full-resolution JPGs, and for a carousel the tool pulls each slide so you can save every image, not only the cover.
Instagram retired IGTV as a separate format years ago, but old IGTV links still resolve as ordinary video posts, so those older URLs keep downloading normally.
Which Instagram links work, and which don't
The tool accepts standard Instagram links: a Reel (instagram.com/reel/…), a feed post (instagram.com/p/…), a TV/IGTV link (instagram.com/tv/…) or a Story opened from a public account. Both the share menu's Copy link and the browser address bar give you a URL in the right shape.
Links from third-party apps that redirect or add tracking can occasionally fail — if a paste doesn't work, open the post in a browser and copy the clean instagram.com URL. Anything behind a login won't resolve because the file isn't public, and a bare username or profile-picture lookup isn't supported: a link-paste tool needs an actual post or Story link, not just a handle.
HD files, original audio and the truth about watermarks
Every download is the file Instagram itself stored, so quality matches the source: an HD MP4 for video (most Reels top out around 1080p) and the original-resolution JPG for photos. There is no quality menu, format picker or WebM option — the tool simply grabs the best version available.
About watermarks, the honest version: a public Reel's source file has no watermark to begin with. What adds one is Instagram's own in-app download button, which burns a logo and username onto the clip. SnapDownloader fetches the original source, so you get the clean file — it doesn't strip a stamp that is already baked into a video.
That's the main reason to use a web tool over Instagram's built-in save, which only covers some public Reels, adds that overlay, and doesn't help with photos, Stories or carousels on a computer.
Why an Instagram download fails
By far the most common reason is that the content isn't public. Private accounts, close-friends Stories and anything you can only see while logged in can't be fetched by SnapDownloader or any legitimate tool — the file isn't served to the open web. Any site that claims to download private posts is either overpromising or fishing for your Instagram password, which you should never enter.
Stories and highlights expire. A Story link only works while the Story is live; once the 24-hour window closes there is nothing left to fetch, so copy and save promptly rather than returning later.
Region-locked, age-gated, deleted or taken-down posts also fail, because the link resolves to nothing. When a download won't start, copy a fresh link straight from Instagram — a stale or edited URL is the usual culprit — and check the post still opens in a normal browser without logging in.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is SnapDownloader for Instagram?+−
SnapDownloader is a free, browser-based Instagram downloader for public content. Paste the link to a Reel, video post, Story or photo and it saves the original file to your device — an HD MP4 for video or a full-resolution JPG for images. There is no account, no app and no extension to install.
What types of Instagram content can I download?+−
You can download Reels, regular video posts, live Stories, highlights, single photos and multi-image carousels from public profiles. Video saves as MP4 and photos as JPG. Old IGTV links still work too, since they now open as standard video posts.
How do I download an Instagram video?+−
Open the Reel or post in Instagram, tap the share icon and choose Copy link (or copy the URL from your browser's address bar). Paste it into the box at the top of this page and press Download. There is no quality to pick — the tool automatically fetches the best version Instagram has and saves it in one step.
What quality will my Instagram download be?+−
You get the same quality Instagram stored, so video comes down as an HD MP4 — usually up to 1080p, since that is what most Reels are uploaded at — and photos save at their original resolution. There is no quality selector because the tool always grabs the highest version available for that post.
Can I download just the audio or an MP3 from a Reel?+−
The Instagram page saves the complete video as an MP4 with its original sound included; there is no separate audio-only or MP3 export on this page. Download the MP4 and the audio comes with it, exactly as it was posted.
Will someone know if I download their Instagram Story?+−
No. Saving a public Story or highlight is anonymous — you are not added to the viewer list, the owner gets no notification, and you don't have to follow the account or log in. The download happens on our side from the public file.
Can I download from a private Instagram account?+−
No. SnapDownloader only works with public profiles and posts. Private accounts, close-friends Stories and anything gated behind a login aren't accessible to any download tool, and we will never ask you to log in or hand over a password to reach them.
Is SnapDownloader safe to use?+−
Yes. It runs in your browser, needs no download or installation, and never asks for your Instagram login, a password or any personal details. Be wary of any "private downloader" that wants you to sign in with your Instagram credentials — that is the main way these tools compromise accounts.
Which devices does it work on?+−
Any device with a browser — iPhone, Android, Windows, Mac, Linux and tablets — with nothing to install. On desktop and Android the file lands in your Downloads folder; on iPhone it saves through the share sheet into the Files app, from where you can move a video into Photos.
Are there any download limits?+−
No. You can download as many public Reels, videos, Stories and photos as you like, free, with no daily cap and no account required.
Is it legal to download Instagram videos?+−
Downloading public content for your own personal, offline use is generally fine. Reposting, redistributing or commercially using someone's Reel, photo or Story without permission can infringe the creator's copyright, so always credit the creator and get their consent before you reshare.
